Plant a Radish, Get a Radish

I’m not a fan of radishes, but a friend said roasted radishes are delicious. So i planted radishes in June. Wow. Now i have radishes! Big radishes.

As the song from The Fantasticks sings, “Plant a radish, get a radish, not a Brussels sprout.” That’s what we are doing every moment of the day: Planting seeds of kindness or sowing seeds of discord. Goodwill or ill-will. Patience or impatience. Take your pick.

Every time you yell at a careless driver, you are planting irritation, which means that you are deepening the furrow of irritation. Is that really what you want to do?

I say “thank you” to the driver who honks at me. Thank you for keeping me safe. Thank you for keeping us all safe on the road. I’ve planted so many thank-yous, that “thank you” is the first thing that comes to mind when someone lays on their horn. Thank you for pointing out my momentary lapse of mindfulness.
