Legacy from My Grandmother

Today would have been my grandmother’s 120th birthday. When we were small, my brothers and sister and i would go to the woods across the road and pick a bouquet for her–spring beauties, jacks-in the-pulpit, dutchmen’s breeches, and phlox divercata (which we called bluebells).

When Nonnie died, 35 years ago, she left $600 to each of her 10 grandchildren. I used my $600 to buy daffodils and other spring bulbs. The daffodils and narcissus are blooming today. I’ve divided my clumps of daffodils many times and given away dozens of pots of daffodils.

The gift that keeps on giving.

Happy Birthday Nonnie.
