Afghan refugee families are arriving in our town today. If you had no place to turn, if your life was in upheaval, where would you take refuge?

As Buddhist meditators, we take refuge in the Dharma–in the teachings of the Buddha, who was himself a homeless wanderer who depended on the kindness of strangers to offer him food.

We also take refuge in the Sangha–our community of meditating friends. Our friends who encourage us to be kind to strangers.
